Colordle

Day 1658. Guess the hidden color name. A higher percent means you are closer.

Read the percent

Colordle scores a guess with CIEDE2000, the formula in CIE Publication 142-2001. The screen shows the absolute value of 100 minus that distance, so an exact match reads 100.00%.

According to Sharma, Wu, and Dalal in Color Research and Application (2005), a delta E around 1 lines up with a small visual difference. A guess at 70% is still far from the hidden name. The full walkthrough is on the how to play page. How a Colordle answer is chosen is on the Colordle answer page.

Questions

What is Colordle?

Colordle is a daily puzzle. You guess a color name, and the game scores that name against the hidden color with CIEDE2000. A new color starts at midnight US Eastern.

How close is a percent to the hidden color?

The percent is the absolute value of 100 minus the CIEDE2000 distance between the two colors. An exact hex match scores 100.00. Sharma, Wu, and Dalal (2005) document that a delta E near 1 is a typical small-difference threshold, so low percents mean the names are far apart in Lab space.

Where do the color names come from?

Guesses use the color-names collection maintained by Meodai. The daily color itself is drawn from a smaller pool after the original 1,016-day schedule.

Can I practice more than once a day?

Yes. Unlimited mode draws a fresh name from the daily pool and does not change the daily streak.
